Blank Hall Pass Assignment

BLANK HALL PASS ASSIGNMENT

You need to first sign up for a special logo. We are trying to cover a vast range of topics that teachers might choose. You are allowed to go out and talk to your teachers to see if there are logos we are missing!
How to name your Adobe File
You need to start a new Adobe Project. It should be named your Username / Blank Hall Pass / Special Logo (ex. jwb2f Blank Hall Pass UVA or drv3g Blank Hall Pass Bills)

My example

Notice!

  • my readable font all in the same size (SEE BELOW WHICH FONTS ARE OKAY!)

  • A hornet in the bottom right corner (SEE BELOW FOR WHICH YELLOWJACKETS ARE UNACCEPTABLE)

  • A special logo in the bottom left corner

  • You will have the words "Blank Teacher" instead of the teacher’s name, the words “Henley Hall Pass” and "Rm. ?" instead of the room number (in RGB Blue).

  • I have a 4” x 4” rounded rectangle, and a circle in the middle top that will cut all the way through (in RGB Red).

Choosing your Hornet Logo for the bottom right
When choosing your hornet, you will need to check with me before beginning to trace. I need to make sure it will be acceptable (not too easy, not too hard, not offensive, and NOT a Georgia Tech Yellowjacket, like on some of our websites!

     Because:

Searching for logos on Google Images
Engineering Design Process
Prepare for feedback and iteration when you think you have first finished your first cardboard prototype. (PLUS, we need to check your fonts)

We will write your name and my feedback on the back before you iterate on Adobe Illustrator and cut another cardboard prototype.

We keep cutting on cardboard until I write the words "birchworthy" on the back of your prototype. THEN, we can cut it on birch!

What’s the best font for people with dyslexia? Helvetica, Courier, Arial, & Verdana (and Calibri) have been scientifically shown to improve readability among people with dyslexia”

Hints:

  • ZOOM- You want to zoom WAY IN before using the pencil tool or the line segment tool when tracing.
  • GOOD AND BAD TOOLS- DO NOT USE the eraser, the AI drawing tool, the "pens," paintbrush ... if you THINK you want to use something that isn't the pencil tool, line segment, shapes, or Text tool, CHECK WITH ME FIRST! I don't want you to waste your time making lines with variable widths that the lasercutter won't be able to read (which you would have to erase and start over).
  • BACK UP YOUR WORK- Save OFTEN. Every 30 minutes or so. If you're on the school wifi, save in two places: to your desktop AND to Student Share >> 000BARBERTECHNOLOGYFOLDER.
  • STROKE WEIGHTS- You want to trace in .1 stroke weight. At the end, when you delete any logos, you will select the whole project and change it to .001 Stroke Weight, so that the lasercutter can read it.
